...is this class for?
This class is for beginning riders. Little, or no experience is required, but the ability to balance and ride a bicycle or other two-wheeled vehicle is a requirement
...has age requirements?
*Persons between 15 1⁄2 and 21 years of age are required to complete this class to even get an Instruction Permit. A parent or legal guardian is required to sign a waiver form in the first class session. For additional, specific information, visit the DMV website at www.dmv.ca.gov
...am I required to wear?
Long sleeves, full-length tough pants without rips or tears, boots or shoes that cover the ankles, leather or other ON-ROAD, STREET specific gloves and a minimum DOT approved helmet of three-quarter, full-face or modular design. Half or convertible helmets cannot be used in this class. Any questions about your kit must be settled before the beginning of your class.
*We strongly suggest wearing clothing that allows for free movement. Very tight pants or shirts don’t allow for enough flexibility to operate the controls easily. However, sweats, yoga pants and fabric gloves are right out. All of your safety gear must cover your skin in a seated position. If you have questions, please contact us before class begins.
...else should I bring?
We can provide seating and shade during the riding part of the class. We stress that this class is very strenuous and a good workout. Bring water or other hydrating drinks and snacks for energy. Too much caffeine or energy drinks can cause fatigue and are not recommended.
...do I get if I am successful?
You will receive a certificate called a DL389 that is taken to DMV as a waiver of the riding part of the endorsement process. Please contact DMV for exact requirements which are different based on age.
You also get a completion card which may be good for insurance deals and other offers from our supporting partners.
...kind of bikes do we ride?
Our current fleet contains BMW G310, CSC San Gabriel and TT and CFmoto Papio and 300NX motorcycles. They will be assigned by your Instructors based on fit. The Instructors’ decisions are final.

The classroom portion will be at Cycle Gear, 72280 HWY 111, Suite 100 in Palm Desert.
The riding part is at Acrisure Arena, 75702 Varner Rd., Palm Desert. Some mapping programs call this area Thousand Palms, but it’s a huge building and hard to miss. Our facility is in the smaller, VIP lot on the west end of the facility.
...are the classes?
Our schedules are pretty much the same for each class, totaling 15-16 hours. We will have a Classroom 1 session at Cycle Gear from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at least one day prior to your riding class.
The first riding classes will be from 7am until noon unless otherwise noted on the schedule. After a break, we will go back to Cycle Gear for Classroom 2 and the written test. This session lasts around 3 1⁄2 hours.
The second range session will be from 7am until about noon, usually on the following day.
...would I take this class?
We like to call it, ‘making an informed decision.” The class is not inexpensive, but it’s a great way to find out if motorcycling is for you. After the class, whether you pass or not, you’ll be better able to make that important choice on your future as a motorcyclist.
...would I fail?
The most common reasons are excessive fear, insufficient balance and inability to progress and improve.
This class is a BASIC class and is the first step to becoming better at a very difficult sport.
